We are hiring certified teachers to teach virtual small-group intervention sessions. Teachers receive training on effective, proven intervention programs, are compensated for training and prep time, and join a community of serious educators, researchers, and advocates committed to changing outcomes for historically underserved children.
This role is a flexible part-time W2 position. We welcome military spouse applicants – more than half our teachers are military spouses today.
The Role
We are hiring teachers to teach virtual small-group sessions during school, after school, and over the summer. You will teach groups of 3-4 students, using effective programs specially adapted for virtual instruction.
You will develop caring relationships with the children you teach, helping them grow and succeed as readers. You will provide weekly updates to school and home stakeholders, building a community of care around each child.
You will be part of a community of like-minded teachers who care deeply about every child’s success.
Schedule
We are currently hiring for the following teaching schedules:
- Summer 2024: 5-8 week sessions, teaching 2-3 hours per day.
- 2024-2025 School Year: Classes beginning as early as August and as late as November. Classes are 45-60 minutes per day, Monday through Thursday, during the school day. You may choose to teach 2-4 classes.
- Note that for summer hiring, we prioritize teachers who are also able to teach during the school year.
Requirements
- A current teaching certificate in general or special education.
- Experience teaching reading in elementary, middle, and/or high school, using structured literacy programs and methods.
- Experience with virtual instruction using Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet.
- An energetic, positive, caring attitude towards children.
- Interest in the science of dyslexia and related reading difficulties.
- Successful completion of a background check, which may include fingerprinting.
Commitments
- Participation in multiple days of program training. You are paid for this time.
- During the summer, 2-3 hours of teaching per day, 5 days per week, for 5-8 weeks.
- During the school year, between 2 and 4 hours of teaching per day, 4 to 5 days per week, over the course of the school year.
- Fingerprinting and background check.
- Weekly completion of instructional tracking reports and student updates.
- Participation in regular staff meetings.
Training and professional development
- Before teaching, you will receive multiple days of training in the program you are assigned to teach. You may receive training on multiple programs.
- During the course of instruction, you will have the opportunity to participate in a mix of mentor observations, peer observations, office hours, and student case management discussions.
- You will also have the chance to engage with leading academics in the fields of dyslexia and reading intervention.

Compensation
- We pay $35/hour for time teaching.
- We have opportunities for increases with greater responsibility (such as mentoring or site leadership).
- We pay a reduced rate for prep time, staff time, and professional development.
