Job Summary

The Director of Athletics is responsible for the development, administration and leadership of all intercollegiate athletic programs, services, and support. This position is responsible for supervision of assigned coaches and staff. Regent University is excited about building the solid foundation of our ten athletic teams into the future. Potential candidates will need to know that there are not yet athletic facilities on campus and no athletic scholarships offered to recruits. The successful Director will be able to find ways to recruit the mission-fit student athletes to our growing campus community. Essential functions of this position will include:

Strategize and supervise the recruitment efforts of new student athletes to ensure all prospective students have a clear understanding of the enrollment process and remain in compliance of NCCAA regulations.
Communicate with Director of Admissions on all anticipated enrollment goals, and manage the recruitment travel budget and schedule in close collaboration with university admissions activities.
Utilize university enrollment and advising systems to communicate relevant information during all stages of the student lifecycle (pre-prospect to graduate).
Coordinate the management of student-athletic aid with the Executive Vice President for Student Life and the Financial Aid and Admissions departments.
Provide training and accountability to all coaching staff on the communication of any institutional aid related to athletic scholarships and their criteria.
Take responsibility for the general welfare and campus life of student-athletes including assuming responsibility for student-athletes’ academic progress/success, spiritual development, and compliance and support of student life policies and expectations.
Coordinate the preparation and management of the university athletic budget with the Executive Vice President for Student Life including transportation of the athletic team, payment of athletic officials, and reimbursement for travel expenses.
Supervise and coordinate game operations for home events.
Conduct an annual evaluation of all athletic department personnel.
Maintain strict adherence with NCCAA rules and regulations relating to the conduct and administration of the athletic department.
Prepare and submit all eligibility and year end reports required by the NCCAA or other agencies or organizations.
Attend NCCAA regional and national meetings and other events.
Coordinate athletic policy to support the university mission, strategic objectives and the expectations established for community standards and practices.
Provide direction and leadership for the development of financial support to advance the athletic department and its needs with the University departments.


Bachelor’s degree required, a Master’s degree preferred
Two to three years of successful high school, college, or private coaching experience or equivalent preferred

Candidate must have:

Excellent communication, organizational, problem solving and management skills
Integrity and the ability to manage confidential issues
Ability to build effective relationships with athletes and with University staff and faculty
Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one, in small groups, and in public speaking contexts
Demonstrated strategic planning skills and an ability to assess a team’s competitive strengths and vulnerabilities
