In this role, the successful candidate supports primary and secondary students with complex mental health conditions ensuring that those students receive specialised and appropriate educational support at all stages of their illness.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and accordingly any appointment (and extension to this appointment) will not extend beyond 12 months.

Your Role

As the Guidance Officer, Mental Health specific duties include:

Priority 1: Supporting state and non-state students returning to school after admission to a mental health treatment program (day program or inpatient unit)

Priority 2: Supporting students with complex mental health conditions under the treatment of a mental health clinician in the community

Priority 3: Building capability among school staff to provide ongoing support for students with complex mental health conditions.

Guidance Officers, Mental Health are supervised locally in each region, and provided with further support from Central Office and Queensland Children’s Hospital School to foster coordination and consistency across the regions.

A mandatory requirement of this role is:
Current full registration as a teacher in Queensland. For more information please CLICK HERE.

Teachers working in Education and Care Services (including State Delivered Kindergarten programs) require an exemption card issued by Blue Card Services. For more information please CLICK HERE.

AND one of the following:
Completed coursework Masters, majoring in guidance and counselling, or an equivalent completed coursework Masters including study in the areas of psychoeducational assessment, counselling and mental health. OR

General or provisional registration as a psychologist through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Psychology Board. OR

an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four or five year qualification in psychology that will enable general registration as a psychologist following completion of a board approved internship or accredited sequence of study.
