Learning Support Assistant – SEMH Job in Bristol at Oasis Community Learning –

Specific Responsibilities
Support for Children’s learning
Under the guidance of the teaching staff and the SENCo, provide direct support for the learning of individual children or groups of children, including those with special needs, to promote the attainment of standards in learning and behaviour within SEN and across the Academy.

  • Activities, interventions, empathetic and sympathetic listening, direct guidance and the provision of appropriate positive feedback to behaviour and learning
  • Facilitating children’s general physical, emotional and educational development
  • Supervising and encouraging safe behaviour of individual and groups at lunch and break times
  • Reinforcement of structured learning habits
  • Providing 1 to 1 or small group support for students as directed by SENCo
  • Providing in class support for identified students

Support for Children’s learning

  • Support all interventions across the Academy
  • Planning for and providing 1 to 1 and small group intervention as directed by the SENCo or Deputy SEN Managers
  • Providing in class support for identified students as identified by SENCo

Support for the Learning Environment

  • Under guidance of the line manager, prepare, store, retrieve, sort and display materials, finished work, equipment, topic work plans and/or assignment documents to assist in providing an effective learning environment to:
  • Facilitate the required standards of achievement and performance, including feedback through structured assessment, for individuals and groups within the classroom
  • Support the development of continuous improvement in both personal performance in the job and the work of the team
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, reviewing and progression of children’s individual learning and support plans
  • Support invigilation and assessment processes, following procedures and under supervision

Care and Support for children
Attend to the day to day needs of children, inside and outside the classroom by:

  • Daily/weekly interventions to promote the attainment of goals as defined by outside professionals such as Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse and Doctor.
  • Report any concerns about students via CPOMs
