Librarian III – Research and Education Librarian Job in Baltimore, MD at Johns Hopkins University – 4.0
This individual will work as a Librarian and Archive expert with faculty, staff, researchers, and students in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, and the Johns Hopkins Health System, and with researchers and users outside of Johns Hopkins who want to access and use the Archive.
The successful applicant will be able to take advantage of a highly flexible work environment, build partnerships with user communities primarily engaged in public health, opioid research, substance abuse, public policy, and related fields, and provide outreach on the Archive to the Johns Hopkins community and beyond. They will also have a demonstrated track record of self-motivation, strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and a personal commitment to excellence and innovation. This individual will join the Welch Medical Library team with a focus on providing services related to the Archive and will work collaboratively with Archive colleagues at JHU and UCSF. The position reports to the Director of the Welch Medical Library in close collaboration with Dr. Caleb Alexander, the Johns Hopkins Principal Investigator of the Archive and Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide a broad range of in-person and online user education programs, provide reference and instructional services for the Archive
Promote use of the Archive and publicize the Archive locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally
Develop research and user-guides for accessing and searching the Archive
Provide direct assistance to users via email, and in-person and virtual consultation
Work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues to support the Library’s and the Archive’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities
Explore new areas for Archive content development and expand on existing Archive strengths, working in close coordination with other Archive staff and colleagues
Provide metrics and analysis on use of the Archive
Serve on library and departmental committees and/or task forces as appropriate.
Work on additional initiatives dependent on library needs / candidate’s interest and expertise
Represent the Library and the Archive at national meetings and through scholarship
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and information science, informatics, archive management, or other appropriate degree
3 years’ professional library experience working in a health sciences or biomedical library or affiliated clinical/research environment
Experience in an academic health sciences library or archive
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated interest or background in public health or historical research
Demonstrated interest or background in digital archival management and use
Creativity in approaches to active adult learner engagement
Demonstrated interest in using emerging technologies and software to create solutions that address the evolving information needs of a research enterprise
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students, and colleagues
Evidence of professional initiative and problem-solving skills
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in person and virtually using a variety of media and technologies

Starting Salary Range: $59,879 – $82,240 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
