Owing to a demand for more editorial work from our clients and a flourishing editorial team, we are now looking to hire a Principal Medical Writer. In this role you’ll be overseeing and leading content development for designated account teams, providing scientific counsel and guidance as needed and taking the lead on key deliverables of strategic importance to the client. You will be working across a range of therapy areas so you will be expected to be flexible and adaptable in your approach with strong skills in prioritisation and delegation.
The main therapy areas we are working across currently are oncology, dermatology, HIV, rare diseases, respiratory medicine and CNS disorders, but regular new business wins will almost certainly provide an opportunity to work in other areas.
Champions best practice among the medical writing team and works closely with the Editorial Team Lead/Head of Editorial to continuously evolve and improve our service offering
Challenges the status quo to ensure continuous improvement in delivery
Mentors and manages members of the writing team, and supports with resource management, training and recruitment
Maintains a high profile within the agency for content knowledge and expertise, and leads the content for designated accounts
Provides scientific and strategic counsel to clients and internal teams regarding complex narratives/portfolio messaging development
Establishes strong relationships with external scientific experts and client teams; viewed as a valued partner
Proactively makes recommendations for enhancing programme development and drives organic growth; leads scientific aspects of pitch development with an emphasis on complex narratives and portfolio recommendations

Your skills and experience
A talent for writing
Good at understanding and communicating complex science (you should hold a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences [2:1 or above] and ideally a master’s degree or PhD)
Able to develop strong relationships –based on exceptional verbal, as well as written, communication abilities –and comfortable providing advice and guidance to others
Extensive medical writing experience within a medical communications agency or an in-house pharma med comms team, demonstrating:
Overarching scientific and content leadership for multiple accounts
Responsibility for maintaining high editorial and scientific standards across a team
Development of junior & mid-level writing talent through direct line management and training
An ability to motivate & inspire a writing team, and elevate standards of content curation
Strong client and expert relationships
