Research Associate, Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI), Faculty of Health, Academic Division Job in Brisbane QLD at Queensland University of Technology –

We are seeking a Research Associate to

provide a range of research activities that

support AusHSI in its mission.

The appointee will work with other AusHSI

researchers to provide qualitative research

support for a suite of academic and clinical

research projects and research consultancies

focusing on innovation, implementation, and

evaluation within health services, often in

collaboration with health service partners.

The ideal candidate will have extensive mixed

methods or qualitative research skills, and be

experienced in research undertaken in a

healthcare setting, and an understanding of

implementation science methodology, as

demonstrated through peer-reviewed

publications of their research outputs in this

field. Experience in facilitating practice change

and/or clinical service re-design within

healthcare will be an advantage.

This position reports to Senior Research

Fellow Dr Zephanie Tyack for supervision,

workload management and for Performance

Planning and Review (PPR). Performance

expectations will be clearly outlined as part of

the PPR process.

Key responsibilities include:
This role will involve working across a variety of

projects, with tasks including:
Simple quantitative data analysis of

existing secondary data sets and primary

quantitative data, using Excel and/or

SPSS

Organising, designing and carrying out

qualitative research in different locations

and contexts

Qualitative analysis of data collected via

interviews, focus groups, workshops or

other methods

Desktop research, using a range of

methods and sources of data including

literature reviews

Working closely with others as part of a

team with external stakeholders to manage

relationships and deliver work

Producing high quality and varied research

outputs for a range of audiences including

analysis, report writing and presentations

where necessary

Making sure our work is participatory,

including working with peer researchers

and valuing the importance of

communicating with different audiences

Taking responsibility for data and project

management and administration as it

relates to delivering work

Taking personal responsibility for key

elements of work as well as supporting

others in the team

Implementing and administering University

policy within the Faculty with respect to

equitable access to education and

workplace health and safety

To ensure job flexibility the successful

appointee may be required to:
perform any other duties as nominated by

the University consistent with the relevant

classification descriptors detailed in the

Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking

any new duties will receive training;

participate in job rotation or multiskilling in

consultation with their supervisor;

work across campuses

To be appointed as a Research Associate the

successful applicant must meet the position

classification standards outlined in the QUT

Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff).

Type of appointment

This appointment will be offered on a fixed-

term, full basis for 12 months. A part-time

basis or flexible work arrangement may be

considered.

Location

Kelvin Grove campus.

Selection Criteria

1. Completion or near completion of a

doctoral qualification in health services

research or a closely related field (e.g.

implementation science, social sciences,

public health, nursing, psychology)

2. Demonstrated experience conducting

and organising qualitative field work

3. Demonstrated experience conducting

qualitative analysis using Excel, Word

and/or NVivo

4. Demonstrated experience contributing to

and preparing manuscripts for peer-review

publication in high quality journals

5. Demonstrated experience working in group

settings and/or as part of a cross-

organisational or inter-organisational team

6. Demonstrated ability to communicate

effectively – in writing and in person –

about research findings to a range of

audiences.

Remuneration and Benefits

The classification for this position is Academic

Level A (LEVA) which has an annual

remuneration range of $82,249 to $111,605 pa

Which is inclusive of an annual salary range of

$69,501 to $94,307 pa and 17%

superannuation.

In July 2020 QUT staff voted in favour of a

variation to its Enterprise Agreements. The

variations were approved by the Fair Work

Commission in August 2020.

The variation impacts leave loading (for new

staff no loading will be paid or accrued during

the period the variation is in effect), salary

increases (the salary increase which was due

to occur in the first full pay period of

December 2020 was deferred until the first full

pay period of December 2021, however it has

been brought forward by the Vice-Chancellor

to be paid in June 2021) and superannuation

(superannuation will be paid to staff as though

the salary increase which would have been

paid in December 2020 has taken effect and,

subject to the rules of the superannuation

fund, a defined benefit member will continue to

make contributions in alignment with the

contributions made by the University). A link to
